In 1862 Ludwig Hünd built an organ for St. Servatius Church in Landkern (Eifel). Not only the church itself, but also the impressive neo-Gothic organ case was designed by Vincenz Statz, the “Baumeister” of the Archdiocese of Cologne.
Organ builder Hünd worked for several years at Bätz in Utrecht and, as an employee of that firm, installed the new organ in Batavia.
The organ in Landkern is one of the few well-preserved organs by Hünd. Around 1900 the pedal windchest was replaced by a mechanical cone chest, and the specification was expanded with a Violon 16′. The instrument is in need of a thorough restoration. This work will – subject to funding – be carried out by Verschueren Orgelbouw.
